Okay, I confess. I don’t have the greatest memory for animation plots. At least not when a few years pass and they bring out a sequal. So next time I write a review on a movie and say ‘I’m a bit fruzzy on what the first one was about’, just remember I pour my heart out to you on this blog in strict confidence.
How To Train Your Dragon 1 came out in 2010 (practically last century). From memory, Hiccup was a puny, unimpressive Viking kid, he had to fight a dragon, said dragon became his friend, and his father was upset, but eventually young Hiccup changed the anti-dragon minds of his village into a dragon peace-loving one.
Did I leave anything out?
I do remember thinking that it would be a dud (the title sounded too silly). I do remember watching it and thoroughly enjoying it. To my two-second brain, that’s all that really counts. Four years on, I saw How to Train Your Dragon 2 in cinema on the weekend. My verdict remains the same. Three words to describe this film? Supery, dupery, great.
Firstly, I’d like to point out that a lot has changed in Hiccup’s world of Vikings and dragons, namely the fact that all his fellow villagers have best friend dragons of their own. The second thing is Hiccup has grown up.
At the very serious risk of sounded far too much like my animation-obsessed sister, does the older Hiccup look decidedly hot to you?
My next question is, did that first question really come out of my mouth?
(Under no circumstances is this conversation to get back to my sister.)
Ehem. And now, back to my rivating review.
Hiccup, who is now approaching cheiftainhood, is discovering the world on Toothless’s back and enjoying his freedom as a twenty year old Viking. He’s still unsure of who he is and doesn’t think he’s the guy to lead his village. He’s about to have those questions and more answered.
In How to Train Your Dragon 2, Hiccup discovers a new land, meets a mysterious dragon rider, and comes against a dragon army control by the power hungry Drago.
If you’re a fan of the first movie, watch this one. If you’re a fan of action-packed, high quality graphics, watch this one. If you’re a fan of attractive animation hunks who are funny, hot, wear dragon armour, have cute hair braids with beads at the end and-
Just watch it, okay?
